Trading Vs Investment

There is a famous quote which I recall every now and then, 'There is nobody who has become rich only by saving'. You might wonder why I am saying this but there is a profound meaning to that phrase. The best way is to save as much as possible and let your savings grow eventually through compounding over a period of time. There is a reason why Mr. Buffet quotes that compounding is the 8th wonder of the world. So now to answer the question why should someone go for trading or why should someone just invest in the market and let it grow. Trading: 1. Trading is just like any other business and primary goal is to make money 2. It involves a complex learning curve, where in the initial time spent in understanding the market  dynamics and technical aspects almost has nil effect 3.Based on the type of trading(will cover in a separate blog)- time spent will vary proportionately and requires active involvement 4. Requires not so much capital(investment)  5. Highly stressful and wi...

Introduction to Stock market

Stock Market, unlike its conventional portrayal, isn't just about stocks and gambling. It has much more to it. I strongly believe that it can and will pave way for financial freedom of an individual if one knows how to handle it.  India's history with stock market started in 1875 when Bombay Stock Exchange was founded. It is believed to be one of the oldest organized stock exchanges in Asia. Since then various Exchanges have come up and gone and currently two exchanges stand as the lasting winners with both having their own competitive edge- the BSE and the NSE. To put stock market in simple terms, lets consider the below analogy. When you intend to buy vegetables or fruits you go to a market place and buy it, same way the seller when he intends to sell, will come to a market place for finding suitable buyers to sell their products to suit...

Image
I was reading this part in Bhagavad Gita where the almighty lord is giving gyaan to a stranded prince facing against his own kiths & kins and well-wishers including his Guru who has taught him all the warfare as his opponents in the battlefield. In one such place, the lord says, the journey is more important than the destination emphasizing the need for the prince to liberate the souls of his opponents by slaying them. By doing so, his actions would be in accordance with Dharma. Well, I get you! We all have come across this phrase in so many places already, what’s so special in it? So I was just pondering, what is new about it. I am one of those majority of the guys, who picturizes things as we comprehend them in mind. So until few days ago, I had always taken literally that journey is more important than destination.   So whenever we go on a road trip, I used to assume that the real fun is by enjoying the travel than the actual scenic spot itself. But that’s not w...

It was one of our business franchisees while I was working in a reputed Small appliances brand. He had been with us in the business for about a year, but he has never been contempt with the business profits as the growing expenses were always chocking him at the end of the month. I know where this call would be heading, but a genuine sales person never cuts off his business ally. So, I answered the call and mentioned him that I was heading to my home town and don't have luxury of time for now. But I know my request to have a discussion tomorrow was not even acknowledged by him and he asked me "Sir, you know, my profits are barely meeting the expenses and at end of the day, I am almost left with nothing. what should I do?" These questions are perennial for any retailer who has established their business post real estate crash, around 2009, ...
